Board Meeting, October 23, 2012

The meeting was called to order at 6:05 pm by President Barry Stevens.  Board members present:  Don Rodgers, Jason Shackelford, Catherine Simmons.  Guests:  Lynn Behrns, James Smith, Bob Scribner. 

Speakers Paul Bateson and Sam Devaram of Missouri Small Business & Technology Development Centers presented information on how they can assist existing small business as well as individuals seeking to start a business.  This office is in partnership with the University of MO Extension Center.  As this program is under the direction of the Small Business Administration, none of the funding can be use to advertise so referrals are others who have heard about their programs.  The programs range from services for “Start-Up” businesses to various programs for existing businesses seeking to improve the company and increase business.  It is recommended their logo be tagged to the CREDI website to facilitate referrals. 

No hard copy of minutes was available so these will be emailed for approval.

The treasurer’s report and Profit & Loss Detail were available.  Currently the accounting is set up on an accrual basis and Barry will speak with the accountant to find out what advantage there is for this type of accounting program. 


Purchase with a Purpose – presentations will be made by Don and Barry at both the Kiwanis and Rotary meetings this week.  The kick-off event is scheduled for November 1 at the Centralia Country Club.  There will a social time beginning at 5:30 with various Centralia businesses providing hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar will be open as well.  The program will start approximately 6:15 and will showcase 4 local businesses that are supporting the program.  These are Angell’s Western Wear, Kincade Pharmacy, Ritchie & Sons Hardware and Forrest Chevrolet.

Enhanced Energy Zone – Mr. Behrns reported the application ready to go and ordinances have been approved authorizing the Mayor and the City Clerk to sign the documents for submission when the other entities involved have signed off. 

Website & Social Media – the new website CentraliaRedi.org is available and Drew is making updates as needed. 

501 (c)6 – is currently with the accountant. 

Tentative date for CREDI planning session – this has not been confirmed as yet.  Barry requested dates be emailed to him of availability and a final decision will be made based on the dates submitted.

New Business:

Barry submitted a proposed job description for a Director of the CREDI board.  There was much discussion of the document.  This will be one of the topics at the planning meeting.

Letter to City of Centralia regarding funding request – Mr. Behrns confirmed the amount currently provided to the Chamber and suggested this letter be submitted soon for consideration by the Board of Aldermen. 

There was no public comment.

The next meeting will be Tuesday, November 27th at 6:00 pm.  No speakers are currently scheduled.

Addendum:  Dwayne Carey, current Boone County Sheriff and Steve Shaw of the Audrain Emergency Management office have agreed to speak at the November meeting.
